How to switch PHP version
This step by step guide will show you how to quickly and easily change your PHP version.
Log into your Squirrel Hosting control panel. Click on 'view / manage hosting'.
Click on the 'eXtend control panel' icon for the domain that you would like to switch PHP version on.
Now that you are logged in to your eXtend control panel, scroll down to the 'web tools' section. Next, click on 'Switch PHP version'.
From the dropdown, select the PHP version that you would like to change to.
After you have done this, click 'update'.
That's it, your PHP version will now have changed.
This method didn't work for me, what can I do?
If this method didn't work for you (this can happen for various reasons), you may need to change your PHP version manually.
To do this, you will need to follow the steps below:
In your eXtend control panel, locate and click on 'File Manager'.
There will be a .htaccess file in your root folder that will have been created when you did the PHP switch in your admin. This will have the PHP version in it that you requested.
However, if you have a CMS in your public_html folder, the .htaccess file for this particular CMS may not have the same PHP version as the one in your root.
To rectify this, you will need to click on your public_html folder.
If you installed your CMS into the public_html, locate the .htaccess file. If you installed it into another folder, you will have to click into that folder first to find the .htaccess file.
Right click on the .htaccess file and then click 'edit'.
Paste in the following code at the top of your file (depending on which version of PHP you want to switch to:
For PHP version 4.4.9 paste in: SetEnv DEFAULT_PHP_VERSION 4
For PHP version 5.2.17 paste in: SetEnv DEFAULT_PHP_VERSION 52
For PHP version 5.3.28 paste in: SetEnv DEFAULT_PHP_VERSION 53
For PP version 5.4.45 paste in: SetEnv DEFAULT_PHP_VERSION 54
For PHP version 5.5.31 paste in: SetEnv DEFAULT_PHP_VERSION 55
For PHP version 5.6.17 paste in: SetEnv DEFAULT_PHP_VERSION 56
For PHP version 7.0.2 paste in: SetEnv DEFAULT_PHP_VERSION 7
As future versions of PHP are added, you can update your .htaccess file by changing the last digit in the code i.e you would change 55 to 56.
Once you have done this, click 'save & close' at the bottom.
