How to set up office 365 with Squirrel Hosting

Creating DNS records for Office 365 at Squirrel Hosting

This guide will show you how to add TXT, MX, CNAME, SPF and SRV records for your Office 365 services.

Adding a TXT record for verification

This notifies Office 365 that you own your domain.

Step 1

Log into your customer control panel.

Step 2

Once you have logged in, click on 'View / manage your domains'.

Once this has loaded, click 'manage' next to the domain in question.

Your domain control panel should have loaded. You will now need to click on 'DNS management'.

If you scroll down once this page has loaded, you will find a TXT records section. In the text box (you can leave the sub domain section empty), type in your 'destination' or 'points to address' value. These will be from the table in Office 365. After you have typed in the information, click 'Update DNS'.

Once you have completed all of the above steps, go to Office 365.

Go to your 'Manage domains' page and select the domain that you have just set up the text record for then click 'Start setup'.

This will load a new page, select 'Okay, I've added the record'.

Once the verification message shows, click 'Next'.

It can take a while for DNS changes to propagate throughout the internet.

Adding a MX record to your domain

This is so that you can use your domain email with Office 365.

Step 1

Log in to your Squirrel Hosting customer control panel.

Step 2

Click on 'view / manage your domains'.

Next, click 'manage' next to the domain that you wish to add the MX records to.

Your domain control panel will load, Click 'DNS management'.

Scroll to the MX records section and enter the following:

Mail Server: <domain-key>.mail.protection.outlook.com.

Priority: 0

Your <domain-key> can be found in your Office 365 portal account.

Make sure you include the full stop at the end of the Mail Server info.

Next click, Update DNS.

Adding CNAME records for Office 365

Step 1

Log in to your customer control panel.

Step 2

Next, click on 'view / manage' domains.

Click 'manage' next to the relevant domain.

Select 'DNS management' once the domain control panel has loaded.

Under the Create New A/AAAA/CNAME records section, add the first two out of four CNAME records. To do this, add autodiscover under the first subdomain heading then add autodiscover.outlook.com. (include the full stop) under the address heading.

For the second record, add sip under the subdomain heading and sipdir.online.lync.com. (include the full stop) under the address heading. After you have done this, click 'Update DNS'.

After this, create the next two CNAME records by inputting lyncdiscover under the first subdomain section as well as webdir.online.lync.com. (include the full stop) under the address section.

To the next record, add msoid as the subdomain and clientconfig.microsoftonline-p.net. (include the full stop) as the address.

After this, clck 'Update DNS'.

Please note, if you have Mobile Device Management, you will need to add two more CNAME records. Do the same as before and add the following information, enterpriseregistration as the first subdomain with enterpriseregistration.windows.net. (include the full stop) as the address. Then add enterpriseenrollment as the next subdomain and enterpriseenrollment.manage.microsoft.com. (include the full stop) as the address.

Adding a SPF record

Adding a TXT record for SPF should help prevent email spam. You can only have one SPF record for a domain. If you currently have a SPF record, add the Office 365 details to that record. For more information on how to add to a current SPF record, visit this link for examples (scroll down to the heading 'Adding to an existing SPF record'.

Step 1

Log in to your Squirrel Hosting control panel.

Step 2

Click on 'view / manage domains'.

Click 'manage' next to the domain that you would like to add the SPF record to.

Once the page has loaded, click 'DNS management'.

Scroll to the TXT records section and add a new record with the SPF values. Firstly, leave the subdomain section blank. Under the Text section, enter v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com -all (without a full stop).

Next, click 'Update DNS'.

Adding SRV records to your domain

This guide will show you how to add two SRV records for Office 365.

Step 1

Log in to your Squirrel Hosting control panel.

Step 2

Next, click on the 'view/manage your domains' section in the control panel.

Locate the domain name that you would like to add the records to and click 'manage'.

Next, click on 'DNS management'.

Next, scroll to the SRV Records section. To input the values, you will first need to choose SIP from the 'service' dropdown (for the first record). Then choose TLS from the 'proto' dropdown.

In the server section input sipdir.online.lync.com. (include the full stop) . Enter 443 in port, 100 in Pri and 1 in Wei.

Next, you will need to add the data for the second record. From the 'Service' dropdown, select 'Enter your own' then input _sipfederationtls into the box. Next, choose TCP from the 'proto' dropdown.

In the 'server' section, enter sipfed.online.lync.com. (include the full stop). Type 5061 in to the 'port' box, 100 into 'Pri' and 1 into 'Wei'.

After you have done this, click 'Update DNS'.
