How to add filters / features to Prestashop 1.6

This guide will show you how to add filters (features as it's called in Prestashop admin) to your categories so that users can filter out any product features that they don't want to see.

In order to do this, follow the below steps:

Step 1: Log in to your Prestashop admin

Once you are logged in, hover over 'catalog' and click on 'Product Features'.

Next, click 'Add New Feature' at the top of the page.

Type in the name of your feature e.g 'T-shirt size' then click 'save'.

Next, click 'add new feature value'.

Next, type in the value field e.g small and click 'save' or 'save then add another value'.

Copy the same procedure for however many values you require.

Step 5

Navigate to the appropriate product and click on the 'features' tab.


Next, navigate to the feature e.g 'T-shirt size' and choose from the drop down the appropriate feature value e.g 'small'. You can also type in a customised value if you wish. After this, click 'Save'.

Go through all of the products where you need to add features and do so (repeating the step above).

Step 6

In order to create the 'filter' checkboxes etc within the product category, you will need to go to and click on the 'modules and services' section.


Now, type 'Layered Navigation Box' into the search box.

Once you have found the module, click on the 'configure' button.

Step 7

Click on 'Add New Template'.

Firstly, choose a name for your template and then click on the appropriate category.

Next, select the feature that you require e.g T shirt size and click 'yes'.

Choose from the dropdown whether you would like your filter to feature a checkbox, radio button or dropdown. After you have done this, click 'save'.


After you have done this, make sure that you click on all of the buttons under 'index and caches'.

View the filters in your shop

Now that everything has been set up, if you visit the category in question e.g 'T-Shirts' in your live shop, you should see the filters in action.
