How to install Drupal
Drupal is a fantastic CMS system made Open Source back in 2001. Installing Drupal can be a bit complicated if you are new to hosting and aren't aware what FTP-ing and databases are. That's why with our Drupal Hosting we provide a 1 click install system which does all the hard work installing Drupal for you. If you follow the below guide it will explain every step involved and you'll have your Drupal site up and running in a few minutes.
Step 1 : Log into your eXtend Control Panel
First step is to log into your Squirrel Hosting account and select 'manage web hosting' from the menu on the left. Once the page has loaded select 'load eXtend panel' next to the domain name you want to install Drupal on to.
Step 2 : Running the Drupal install
In the eXtend control panel, under CGI scripts, click the Drupal icon. You may see more than one icon if more than one version of Drupal is available. If you are unsure which one you need just install the most up to date version (the highest number).
Next you need to specify where you would like Drupal installed to. If you want it in a sub folder e.g. yoursite.co.uk/drupal then enter the folder name in the 'Installation Directory:' box. If you just want Drupal installing in the root of your domain (so customers just type yoursite.com) leave this blank.
This is all the information our 1 click install software needs. Click the 'Install Now' button to start the install. You will be presented with a progress bar like the one below.
Once this is installed you should see an 'installation complete' message.
You should see an install link below which when clicked will take you to the Drupal setup page. This is where you will need to go to complete the install, set up admin details etc. Click the install link (this will usually be yoursite.com/install.php) to load up the 'Select an installation profile' page.
On the Installation profile page select 'standard' if not already selected and click 'Save and continue'.
On the next step leave 'English' ticked and click 'Save and continue'
Make sure MySQL is ticked and leave all the other fields as they are (username password etc), then click 'Save and continue'
Drupal will now setup all necessary files and modules. A progress bar should be displayed.
Once complete you should see a page asking for various details. You will need to fill these in specific to your requirements.
- Site name : This is the name of your site e.g. Business name
- Site e-mail address : Your e-mail address or the e-mail address to be associated with the website.
- Username : Your desired admin username
- Password : Your desired admin password
- Confirm Password : Retype your desired password again
- Default country : Your country
- Default time zone : Your countries time zone
- Check for updates automatically : Leave this ticket
- Receive e-mail notifications : Leave this ticket
Once you have filled the above in, click 'Save and Continue'
That's it. The next page should display 'Congratulations, you installed Drupal!' Click the 'visit your new site' to load your new website.
