How to install OpenCart Guide
Opencart is a feature packed, free / opensource e-commerce solution that integrates multiple shipping methods, payment gateways and multi store abilities.
Squirrel Hosting offer a very user friendly 1 click install for Opencart that is extremely quick and easy to run. The article below will offer you guidance on how to run Open Cart via our 1 click install. If you havent already, why not check out our OpenCarth Hosting UK packages.
Our 1 click install software will only install to an empty directory. If your hosting account is new, make sure you have removed the default index.html. Failure to install in an empty directory will result in a blank page once you have attempted to run the install.
Step 1 Log in to eXtend
Log in to your eXtend control panel. For your username and password as well as details on how to do this, check your welcome email. You can also access your eXtend control panel via your customer control panel under 'manage your hosting'.
Step 2 Run the Opencart 1 click install
Once you have logged in to your control panel, scroll down and click on the Open Cart symbol in the e-commerce section.
A page will load stating that you will be installing Version 126.96.36.199 of OpenCart. You will also be asked to choose an installation directory. You can either install OpenCart to your root domain (example.com) or to another folder / filepath (example.com/store). Leave the installation directory box blank if you wish to install to your root domain. Once you have chosen the option that appeals to you, click 'install now'.
After a few seconds, a page should load titled 'installation complete'. It will state that 'your cgi script has been installed to...' and will list 2 links in the form of your domain. Click on one of these to continue.
The next page to load will say 'Step 1 - License'. You will need to read all of the license terms and conditions and then tick the 'I agree to the license' box (if you agree) and click 'continue'.
A pre installation page will load. At this stage, the installation program will check if all of your PHP settings are configured correctly, that certain extensions are installed and that directory / file permissions are set correctly. As a Squirrel Hosting customer, this will all be done automatically for you and all requirements will be met. To move onto the next step, click 'continue'.
The next step is the configuration page. Your database settings will all be filled in for you. These can be left as they are. However, you will need to fill in administration details at the bottom. You will need to input the following details:
- Username (choose an admin username)
- Password (choose an admin password)
- E-mail (input the email address of the administrator)
After you have done this, click 'continue'.
Once this step is completed, you will have successfully installed Open Cart. You can now choose to either go to your online shop or login to to your admin. All you need to do is click the appropriate link.
