Wordpress Hosting, How to install WordPress
WordPress is one of the most popular blog platform/CMS systems used online today. Its features and extras rival any paid blog software and due to it being open source, it's completely free. Below is a guide on how to install WordPress onto your hosting account with Squirrel Hosting.
Step 1 : Log into your Hosting eXtend Control Panel
First step is to log into your Squirrel Hosting account and select 'manage web hosting' from the menu on the left. Once the page has loaded, select 'load control panel' next to the domain name you want to install WordPress onto.
Step 2 : Installing WordPress into your Hosting account
Click the WordPress Icon under the CGI Scripts section.
On the next page it will ask you where you want to install WordPress to. If you want WordPress to run from the root of your website e.g. www.yourdomain.co.uk, then leave this box blank. If you want to install WordPress into a directory e.g. www.yourdomain.co.uk/blog, then enter this in the box e.g. blog. Then you simply click the 'install now' button. Please note: WordPress can only be installed in a empty directory, if you have uploaded files into your public_html folder or install directory then you will need to remove these first.
Once the install has completed, you will be provided with a link to your blog. Click this link to start the online setup.
You may get a message stating you have installed wordPress in a sub folder (this can be ignored and will refresh after a few seconds to the main setup page).
Step 3 : Running the WordPress Blog setup
You should now see 'welcome to the famous five minute WordPress Installation process' displayed.
You will need to fill in the following;
- Site Title : This is the name of your WordPress Blog.
- Username : Enter the username you would like to use when you log into your admin.
- Password Twice : You will need to enter a secure password of your choice in both of the boxes. Alternatively if you leave these blank, a nice and secure password will be generated for you.
- Your e-mail : Enter your e-mail address here.
- Privacy : Make sure this is ticked if you want your site to appear in search engines like Google and Yahoo.
Once you have filled all these in, click the 'install WordPress' button.
That's it! You should now see "Success, WordPress has been installed." Click the Login button to log into your WordPress site and start editing it!
