How do I connect via FTP with Dreamweaver CS5?

If you would like to connect to your web hosting with Dreamweaver, you can do this via FTP. It's quite easy to do and you can edit files and upload them with very little effort.

From the Dreamweaver menu at the top, click the 'Site' menu. Then click 'Manage sites'.

If you have already set up a FTP connection in Dreamweaver CS5 before and just need to edit the settings, click your site then click edit. Otherwise click the 'New' button.

Click the 'Servers' link on the left, then click add new server '+' button.

Next you need to enter your FTP information for Dreamweaver CS5. If you are a Squirrel Hosting customer you will find these details in your welcome e-mail and can also use the below details. If you are using another company, you will need to contact them for these details.

Server name : The name you wish to give to the server e.g. yourdomain.co.uk
Connect using : FTP
FTP address : ftp.yourdomain.co.uk
Username : yourdomain.co.uk
Password : see your welcome e-mail
Root Directory : public_html
Web URL : http://yourdomain.co.uk

Replace yourdomain.co.uk with your actual domain name.

IMPORTANT : Squirrel Hosting customers will need to log into their extend control panel and unlock their FTP before dreamweaver can connect.

Next, click the 'More options' link. Then select 'Use Passive FTP' from the new expanded options then click the 'Test' button.

You should now see a box pop up stating 'Dreamweaver connected to your Web server successfully'. Click the ok button to continue.

That's it. Simply save/close the remaining windows to return to your project.
